Monitoring Requirement Not Met for Arena Waterworks

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards. Between 10/01/2023 and 10/31/2023, we did not monitor for fluoride contaminants, and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of your drinking water during that time.

There are no special precautions you need to take at this time.  This is a DNR required notice to inform residents of a missed test. Tests are done monthly and we have no reason to believe there were any contaminants in the water during the aforementioned timeframe as Arena Waterworks has never tested positive for fluoride contaminants in any previous month.

Unexpected staff changes led to the missed test, and a schedule is in place to ensure no further tests are missed.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Public Works Supervisor Rich Meili, Village of Arena, 345 West St, Arena, WI or by phone at 608-459-5838.

Hydrant Flushing

The Village of Arena will be flushing and testing Fire Hydrants during June 13th-15th. Residents may experience some discoloration of their water.
However, the water will continue to be safe to drink. Residents may want to avoid doing laundry during this time to avoid discoloration of clothing. If you must do laundry, make sure you check the water before you wash the clothes.
Despite the inconvenience of the discolored water, it is necessary to flush fire hydrants to remove any sediment that might have settled in the water mains and also, to insure that the fire hydrants remain in good working condition.
If you have any questions, please call the Arena Public Works at 459-5838. Thank you for your understanding during this process.

If property is found not in compliance with the above Notice, the Village of Arena shall issue an Official Notice stating that action must be taken within five days of the written notice or the Village of Arena will destroy the weeds at the responsible person’s expense.

8.05.070 Regulation of length of lawn and grasses.

Public Nuisance Declared. The village board finds that lawns, grasses and noxious weeds on lots or parcels of land which exceed eight inches in length adversely affect the public health and safety of the public in that they tend to emit pollen and other discomforting bits of plants, constitute a fire hazard and a safety hazard in that debris can be hidden in the grass, interferes with the public convenience and adversely affects property values of other land within the village. For that reason, any lawn, grass or weed on a lot or other parcel of land which exceeds eight inches in length is hereby declared to be a public nuisance, except for property located in a designated floodplain area and/or wetland area or where the lawn, grass or weed is part of a natural lawn approved pursuant to AMC 8.05.060.

Utility Bills - April Mailing

How to Calculate Your Water Bill information
You will notice a change in utility billing this month. Invoice is paper size vs green post card due to the insert mailings and needed a mailing address to fit into the window envelope.
You will also notice a possible adjustment on your utility bill due to the Galaxy (antenna-that reads the meters) broke and needed to get a new one. Your January & February utility bill was estimated, the reading in March is the actual usage for the past three months. It deducts the amount that was estimated from your Jan/Feb bills and the balance is owed. Some are more and some are less than your usual monthly bill. If you feel there is a big change in the amount owed (could be due to a possible leak), please call the Village Office at 753-2133.

Important Notice to Voters

Important Notice

The Wisconsin Election Commission has notified the Village that there was an error on the ballots that have been printed for the upcoming November election.  Wisconsin Statutes allow independent candidates to include a statement of principle, if any, in five words or less, along with their name on the ballot.  In the race for Congressional District 2, Douglas Alexander, who is running as an independent, should have the words "Term Limits for Congress" after his name instead of "Independent".

The Village is in the process of mailing a letter to all absentee voters who have already received their ballot. The letter will also be included with future absentee requests and posted during in-person voting.

  • If you have already returned your absentee ballot and not wish to make any changes, no action is required on your part.
  • If you have already returned your absentee ballot, and do wish to change your vote, you may contact the Clerk's office to spoil your ballot and be issued a new absentee ballot.
  • If you are just receiving the notice with your ballot, the mistake will not affect the votes cast on your ballot.

BUILDING PERMIT ONLINE APPLICATION

Johnson Inspection, LLC is pleased to announce we have launched the online Johnson Inspection Permit
Application Portal, where Permits and Inspections can be requested.

This process will allow permitting, payments, and inspection requests to be streamlined and processed
immediately for owners and contractors.

Applicants can apply and pay for their permits online through the website: www.jiportal.com

The applicant will be issued a permit immediately upon the completed payment submission using Credit Card or
ACH. This process will allow work to start promptly, avoiding delays. The applicant can submit payment using a
check if they choose that method as well, but the permit will not be issued until payment has been received. This
will free up Municipal office staff time, since the applicants will not have to come to the Municipal office to pickup
and pay for a permit, while also saving time for the applicant.

The online inspection requests will enable applicants to request inspections, see when the inspection was
completed, and if it passed or failed on-demand, without having to contact the Johnson Inspection office.

Well Drilling

What is going on in the Village of Arena Park? Sam’s Well Drilling, Inc. from Randolph, WI is drilling the test well for the planned construction of the Village of Arena secondary well to be completed in late 2022 with the well house construction to be completed in 2023. A secondary well has been recommended by DNR for several years to maintain water security in the event of an equipment failure of our only well. Additionally, a second well aids in having adequate water supply in a fire event, and thirdly, an additional well sets our community up for future economic growth. Funding for this project is coming from Arena’s TIF District, which keeps Village taxpayer money in the Village. Photo courtesy of Kathy Stoltz Photography.

DOG LICENSE(S) for 2022 are here!

Please remember that if you have a dog that is over 5 months of age, by state law and village ordinance, it must be licensed each year. This helps ensure that the dog is properly vaccinated. As an added bonus, if our officers come upon a properly licensed dog (meaning the license is current and is attached to the collar), we will try to get the dog home, at least a couple of times, rather than taking it to Human Society “doggy jail” and resulting in the owner of having to pay "bond" to get the dog out. Licenses can be obtained at the Village Clerk's Office – COST: $7.00 neutered/spayed; $15.00 unaltered. Please take steps to get your dog licensed as we do check when we have contact for a dog related matter (and only one warning will be given for the license issue). Thank-you.
